Empowering People with Disabilities to Empower Themselves

Welcome!   I have been with the “Freedom Valley family” for over seven years .  Originally, I started out as a volunteer.  My skills have flourished in the areas of intake, information and referral, peer counseling, mentoring and advocacy.  I am inspired to improve the quality of life for people.  Along with peer mentoring, I provide a personal touch to our consumers by focusing on their individual needs and choices.

I graduated from Penn State and Villanova Universities  where I was involved in improving conditions for people with disabilities.  Struggling with my own disabilities, I developed a passion for empowering others in similar situations.  I have always been active in disability issues from my time at Barrier Awareness.  I worked at the MBF Center, a computer training program for people with disabilities.  Additionally, I worked at Renal Treatment Centers providing medical billing and kidney dialysis awareness for patients.  These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for individuals with disabilities and an opportunity to work one-on-one with consumers.  I have gained a wealth of insight in dealing with people and their problems.

In my spare time, I am an avid writer and reader, especially of self-improvement books.  I like to exercise and spend time with my family.  I am interested in computers and technology that can transform people’s lives.   I enjoy a balanced and harmonious life.

I believe and understand that everyone has the ability to be independent.  I am committed to empowering people with disabilities to lead more independent and productive lives.  My motto is: “Empowering people to empower themselves—one person at a time.”  Come be empowered at Freedom Valley Disability Center!
